Don’t get me wrong, we have had a lot of success in this town. We have seen 22 consecutive seasons of playoff hockey, 11 Stanley Cups and countless Hall of Famers. There isn’t much to NOT like about what we have seen from our team. However, when I hear “2009” I think of one thing. No matter what context it is brought up I always think about game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals of that year.
We were coming off of a Stanley Cup victory in 2008 against the Penguins and found ourselves playing the same team in the Finals from the season before, the Penguins. Armed with Sidney Crosby, the Penguins pulled off a comeback in the 7 game series and won on Detroit ice in 2009. Something many people didn’t think was possible. I still have never seen Crosby hoist the cup from that fateful night. Seeing as I tore out of the bar I was at for a 3 mile and inexplicably 5 hour trek home….. That is a story for another night.
Tonight we faceoff against that same foe in the same confines they hoisted 4 years ago. A lot has changed on both teams. Little has changed in my mind. I respect the skill Crosby has(44 points in 33 games) but I don’t respect him as an ambassador of the game.

Gustavsson will start in net for the Wings tonight.
Also Mrazek is said to be getting the start tomorrow against Tampa.
I’m not going to make a prediction tonight. I say we all get excited about the game tonight. If you can’t get excited about a game like this you need your pulse taken. You may be a walker.
Let me leave you with this:
Let’s Go Red Wings!
